Tampere Pulse
The goal of Tampere is to create new data-driven services for local businesses. A recent example of such a service is the Tampere Pulse, which predicts visitor flows in the city center and can be found in the Tampere Finland app. The service collects anonymized data from downtown traffic cameras, weather forecasts, the Tampere event calendar, and Lippu.fi. It also takes into account weekdays, holidays, and events in neighboring municipalities in addition to Tampere. Using the collected data, the service generates a forecast of visitor flows for the upcoming month. The Pulse app helps businesses in the city center prepare for events by anticipating increased demand, ensuring sufficient staffing, and adjusting opening hours.
Tampere Pulse is also available as a web version, which offers a more detailed map view compared to the mobile app. You can access the web version here.
Tampere's Pulse attracts international interest
The Pulse app caught interest at the Smart City Expo & World Congress in Barcelona, where Tampere won the award for enabling technologies. Pulse served as an example in Tampere's competitive presentation, highlighting the city's use of data and smart technologies for the benefit of businesses and residents. The replicability of the Pulse service is generating interest.
