Idea of the 52 times culture campaign

Page content in brief

During 2025, the culture campaign will present 52 free or very affordable opportunities to experience culture. The 52 times culture campaign will highlight a weekly cultural event in Tampere that inspires city residents to experience culture at a low threshold. The aim is to encourage people to try out new ways of enjoying Tampere's rich cultural offer and to inspire them to seek out information for themselves.

The campaign will highlight the City of Tampere's own cultural institutions and services, especially free services that are easily accessible, such as admission-free days at museums, book tips, accessible art, opportunities for self-expression and cultural routes around Tampere.

Sparked by an idea from the President of Finland

In September 2024, the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, took part in a panel discussion in Tampere on his own wish, entitled "Culture as a resource for society".

- If we don't go to theatres, concerts, museums and art exhibitions, if we don't read books, then our mental capacity to act in difficult situations is weakened, he said.

He went on to suggest that everyone could set a target of 52 cultural experiences a year - one every week.

Encouraged by the President, we are taking action - after all, Tampere is a city of action. In addition to the campaign page, the week's cultural experiences will be presented on the City of Tampere's social media channels. The site will give you a weekly spark to seek out culture, even if the weekly tip doesn't fit into your schedule.

A challenge for other Finnish municipalities

Tampere wants to challenge not only all Tampere residents but also other municipalities and cities to join the 52 times culture campaign. We encourage other cities to highlight their own cultural offerings. The weekly tip can be easily picked up on social media or on the city's website. The more culture is visible in everyday life, the more people are likely to find it and get excited about it - and the stronger the role culture plays in our society.
