Tampere's attraction hits new heights, population grew by nearly 5000 residents in 2022

Tampere's population growth continues at record-breaking pace, with an increase of 4837 residents in 2022, according to preliminary data announced by Statistics Finland recently.

Tampere's population will likely reach quarter of a million in 2023, as the population grew up to 249 060 residents by the end of 2022. 

Tampere's growth is strongly based in internal migration and immigration, as the birth rates fell lower than death rates for the first time in 30 years. 

City's strategic goal is to reach the level of 300 000 inhabitants by the end of 2040. 

- If immigration remains at the level of 2022, Tampere's population may grow even faster than expected during this decade, says Johanna Ahlgren-Holappa, Head of Information Services at City of Tampere.

All Finland's six largest cities (Helsinki, Espoo, Tampere, Vantaa, Oulu, Turku) gained more population growth in 2022 compared to previous year. 

Statistics Finland publishes the confirmed figures in March, and there may be some differences with the recently published preliminary data.
