Contest for New Music UMK returns to Tampere – check out the programme

Finland’s biggest music show UMK is coming to the Nokia Arena on 10 February. Tampere welcomes the UMK frenzy to the city by organising a memorable event week together with the city community. Check out the programme!

You can enjoy the joyful UMK atmosphere in different parts of the city. Pink and purple lighting will delight the city centre and a varied programme of events will keep the atmosphere buzzing all week long.

The UMK frenzy also takes over Tampere's trams. During the event week, the Tram drivers will wear theme-appropriate bows, and the Tram windows will feature stickers reminding passengers of the upcoming event.

On the event day, Saturday, February 10th, Tampere Tramway will host a UMK-themed pop-up event on the Tampere Art Tram together with the city of Tampere. The Tampere Art Tram and DJ Juissi will take passengers on a musical journey through UMK history.

The Art Tram will operate on line 3 between Hervantajärvi and Santalahti. The first departure will be from Hervantajärvi at 2:05 pm, and the return journey from Santalahti back to Hervanta will be at 2:47 pm. The pop-up event will conclude at Hervantajärvi at 3:21 pm. You can recognize the Tampere Art Tram by the colorful artwork on its sides, created by artist Teemu Raudaskoski.

Tampere's main library, Metso, will host the Library Goes Eurovision event on Thursday 8 February, starting at 11am with a DJ lunch at Cafe Metso. The magic of the Eurovision Song Contest will come alive at the end of the evening from 6-7 pm when the Tampere Library Band will perform iconic Eurovision songs from different decades.

The UMK atmosphere will also be on offer after dark, when Tampere's iconic buildings and venues will be illuminated in the event's colours. The illuminations can be seen from 8 to 10 February.

The city will illuminate the Tammerkoski waterfall in the colours of the UMK. The theme will also be reflected in the light curtains on Hämeenkatu and on digital platforms in the urban space. Other iconic buildings in the city will also be illuminated.

The illuminated sites

  • Tammerkoski rapids
  • Hämeenkatu light curtains
  • Tampere Hall, Yliopistonkatu 55
  • University of Tampere main building, Kalevantie 4
  • Sokos Hotel Torni, Ratapihankatu 43
  • Original Sokos Hotel Ilves, Hatanpään Valtatie 1
