Around 5 500 residents voted – 46 activities will receive Mansen Massit Community Grant

In May and June, the people of Tampere voted to decide who would receive the Mansen Massit Community Grant. Almost 5,500 voters chose their favourites from a total of 93 options. Based on the results of the vote, 46 events or activities will receive Mansen Massit funding.

– There's a lot of interesting things coming up all over the city! Sports, music, art, seasonal festivals, neighbourhood events, courses, excursions, talks and much more, says Regional Coordinator Jarno Koskinen.

– It's worth following the Tampere events calendar, where beneficiaries of the Mansen Massit Community Grant will tell you about their activities. The buzz will continue until autumn next year, Koskinen says.

All events and activities funded by the Mansen Massit Community Grant are carried out by the people of Tampere.

A vote on Community Grant

The City of Tampere's Mansen Massit Community Grant is a grant that residents and associations can apply for in order to carry out free, community-enhancing activities that anyone can take part in. The deadline for applications was in April.

– The grant is intended for activities that the people of Tampere desire. Therefore, the beneficiaries of the grant were decided by voting, says Regional Coordinator Koskinen.

The vote on the Mansen Massit Grant was held from 20 May to 2 June 2024, and voters were able to choose their favourite from 93 options. They were divided into three categories according to the amount of money requested: small (€2,000 or less), medium (€2,001–€5,000) and large (€5,001–€10,000).

All residents of Tampere had the right to vote. Each person had three votes, one for each category. A total of 5 486 people took part in the voting.

Based on the results of the vote, 46 applicants were awarded the Mansen Massit Community Grant. A list of the recipients, the amount of the grant and the number of votes can be found further down this page.

– All applicants who took part in the Mansen Massit vote were supported. The most popular ones even received more than 400 votes, says Jarno Koskinen.

More money for the Mansen Massit activities

From the very beginning, the Mansen Massit Grant was a success. During the grant application phase, a large number of varied and high-quality applications were received from Tampere residents.

– The budget was initially €140,000. We received many excellent applications and wanted as many of them as possible to be realised. So we added €28,600 from the general welfare grants and €4,700 left over from the money earmarked for Mansen Massit advertising. We ended up with a total of €173,120, says Jaakko Laurila, Head of Planning.

This was the first year that the Mansen Massit Community Grant was awarded. The pilot showed that people in Tampere are interested in organising a wide range of events and activities on their own initiative.

– We have received many thanks and suggestions to help us develop the Community Grant. The feedback has made us aware of the diverse needs of our residents. This information will be used when we work to develop the city's grant system, says Lotta Harsunen, a Planning Officer.

– The Mansen Massit Community Grant is just one form of support among many others. The city has many other grants that you can apply for to support your own activities and events, Harsunen points out.
