The Trip, directed by Jorma Taccone, is a thriller about a couple who retreat to a remote cabin to reconnect with each other. However, both secretly plan to kill the other. Last week, Yle reported on rumors that Hollywood stars had been spotted in Tampere.
The City of Tampere and Business Finland have granted audiovisual industry incentives for the production of The Trip. The movie is being produced by 87North and XYZ Films.
-It’s fantastic that yet another international film is being shot in Tampere. It’s great to see that we have established ourselves as an international filming destination. This has been achieved through purposeful work with Film Tampere, supported by the production incentive program. Investing in the audiovisual industry is a significant part of the strategic economic policies within the experience economy, says Anna-Kaisa Heinämäki, Director of Competitiveness at the City of Tampere.
Attracting Major Film Productions to Tampere Is the Result of Long-Term Efforts
-It’s the result of long-term work that we have earned the trust of international productions! This is our third collaboration with XYZ Films in Finland and Tampere. A star-studded cast and experienced producers help to grow the region’s film industry by enhancing professional expertise, credibility, and, of course, its appeal. In the entertainment industry, reputation and trust are the most important. We’re talking about millions in direct economic benefits for the region and global visibility for the city area, says Fanny Heinonen, Program Director at Film Tampere.
Film productions play a crucial role in strengthening Tampere’s vitality. According to a study by Film Tampere, productions have employed an average of around forty local professionals per production. This figure reflects only those directly employed in the production industry, and does not include additional employment impacts from sectors such as accommodation, transportation, catering, and marketing. Supported productions have provided employment for up to 2,200 workers between 2019 and 2022, for various periods.
