An adventure in the hometown of the Moomin Museum kicks off the winter holiday in Tampere

Region’s winter holiday starts on 22–23 February 2025 with a weekend event that invites children and childminded people alike to the centre of Tampere for an adventure. There are eight different stops along the route and participants can enter a competition to win a private visit to the world's only Moomin Museum. The event is part of the Moomin 80 anniversary year programme.

Playfulness and adventure are at the heart of Tove Jansson's beloved Moomin stories, as they are also at the heart of this winter event. This adventure in the hometown of the Moomin Museum involves eight different event points, organised by the Moomin Museum, the Tampere City Library Metso and Sampola, Culture House Laikku, Children's Cultural Centre Rulla and the Museum Centre Vapriikki. In addition, Tampere City's Family Exercise (Perheliikunta) and the Tampere Art Museum organise programme in the Sorsapuisto Park.

Program for all tastes

Participatory winter activities attract crowds to Sorsapuisto Park on Saturday 22.2. at 12-15 pm. This winter bash is organized by the Tampere City's Family Excercise, and will feature sledding and winter games in the snow.

In Culture House Laikku, you can navigate with a map to find syllables that together form a name of one of the Moominvalley resident. Who is it? After figuring out the answer, you can get a small reward.

At the Moomin Museum, you can learn more about the origin of the Moomins and the life of Tove Jansson. At the same time, the Tampere Art Museum offers in Sorsapuisto park a view of Viktor Jansson's public sculpture, for which his daughter Tove Jansson served as a model.

At Metso Main Library, you can take part in a Moomin-themed orienteering activity not only during the adventure weekend, but also throughout the spring, according to the library's opening hours.

The Sampola library hosts a Moomin-themed exhibition, and on Saturday 22 February at 13:00, the library hall will also offer Peeks into the Dancing Moominvalley by the dance theatre MD, free of charge.

The Children's Cultural Centre Rulla offers art workshops, where you can realise you work to be entered for the My Moominhouse competition. The Finnish Museum of Games offers Moomin board games in Museum Center Vapriikki.

The events and activities are free of charge, but there is an entrance fee to the Moomin Museum and Vapriikki during the event (free admission with a Museum Card).

Participants in the Adventure in the Hometown of the Moomin Museum event can also grab an adventure map from the route and enter a competition to win a private visit to the Moomin Museum with dinner for their circle of family or friends. In addition, there will be a draw for 3 double admission tickets to the Moomin Museum.
