Journal and newspaper collections
You can read journals in the journal reading spaces and on the computers. You can browse the journal collection in the online library from Journals. In addition to physical journals, the library’s journal collection also has e-journals and microfilm journals.
Journals
Nearly all journals are available for borrowing. At most of the units, the newest issues are available for reading at the libraries, and the older issues are available for borrowing. As a rule, the borrowing time of journals is two weeks.
Individual copies of journals can be reserved in the PIKI online services of the libraries. Old volumes of journals are stored in the Main Library Metso. The storage times vary between journals. The storage times of journals vary between local libraries. You can ask more at the libraries.
Newspapers
Newspapers are not available for borrowing. Newspapers are stored in libraries for 1–2 months. Some of the older newspapers have been recorded on microfilm.
Microfilm newspaper volumes are stored in the microfilm room in the basement of Main Library Metso. The customers have access to two microfilm scanners and a micro card reader. The devices may be booked using the booking application on the customer computers (for up to three hours at a time). If necessary, the staff can provide guidance with using the microfilms and reading devices.
E-publications
The ePress newspaper service includes a comprehensive selection of Finnish newspapers, including Aamulehti and Helsingin sanomat. There is a 24-month archive of newspapers. The service is only available on the library's customer computers and wireless network.
PressReader is an electronic publication service that provides access to digital copies of publications from all over the world. The publications are available for reading as soon as they are published and are stored in the archive for 60 days. The service can be accessed on the library’s customer computers. Remote access: You can also download publications on your own device using the library’s wireless network.
