Selection and procurement of materials

Selection and procurement of materials

In choosing the materials, the residents’ demographics as to their age, occupation and education are considered. The choices are also influenced by the use of the materials and the customers’ procurement suggestions. No such materials that highlight violence, infringe on human rights or degrade minorities are procured at the library.

Most of the procured materials are in Finnish. Materials in Swedish are procured in relation to how much Swedish materials are used. The demand for materials in English is constantly growing and thereby also the procurement thereof. Some materials in the languages spoken by immigrants are also procured. Materials related to the Tampere Region are procured in particular.

Donations

The library does not accept donations, except from creators of new works and their publishers.

Storaging of library materials

Materials that are rarely used are stored separately. Finnish fiction works and essential nonfiction works are stored at the Metso Main Library. Notation and journal volumes are also stored. All materials moved into storage are available for customers.

Removing materials

Library materials that are in bad condition, outdated or obsolete are removed. Removed materials are donated to other libraries, sold or disposed of as paper waste.

Selling materials

Removed materials are sold at the library. There are separate announcements regarding sales events. Removed materials may not be reserved in advance.

Procurement suggestions

You may submit a procurement suggestion to the library regarding materials that interest you.
