Regional Waste Management Committee
Regional Waste Management Committee is a joint waste management authority in Pirkanmaa. Committee decides on waste management authority matters based on the Waste Act (646/2011).
Waste Management Committee operates in the same area as the the solid municipal waste management company, Pirkanmaan Jätehuolto.
Area of operation covers 17 municipalities: Hämeenkyrö, Ikaalinen, Juupajoki, Kangasala, Lempäälä, Mänttä-Vilppula, Nokia, Orivesi, Parkano, Pirkkala, Pälkäne, Ruovesi, Sastamala (former municipalities of Mouhijärvi and Suodenniemi), Tampere, Vesilahti, Virrat ja Ylöjärvi.

Tasks of the waste management authority
The key tasks of the waste management authority are:
- approval of regional waste management regulations
- approval of waste tariffs
- making decisions over property-specific waste transport
- imposing municipal waste charges and handling complaints against the waste charge
- handling of applications for exemptions from waste management regulations
- handling of notifications under waste management regulations
- monitoring the organization of waste management in properties
- keeping a register of waste transport and treatment of biowaste on properties
The decisions of waste management authority are made by the Committee and partly by waste management manager.
