Welcoming City strengthens the vitality of Tampere and competitiveness of business environment

Tampere Welcoming City development program supports the implementation of Tampere's city strategy and the mayoral program. The measures of the development program align with the city's strategic priorities including Equal individuals, Active communities, and Pioneer of the future. The program also contributes to the 2021-2025 city council term goal of increasing the number of international experts in Tampere. A key objective of the development program is to ensure the competitiveness of Tampere's business environment and the city's vitality in the future. 

The development  programs aims extend to the availability of skilled labor, the internationalization of Tampere's job market, the prevention of segregation, the learning of the Finnish language by immigrants, and the establishment of seamless services.

The preparation of the development program has been carried out in extensive collaboration with various stakeholders, including the city of Tampere, the business community, higher education institutions, educational organizations, the third sector, and international talents living in Tampere. The implementation of the program's measures will also be advanced through comprehensive stakeholder cooperation.

The focus areas of Tampere Welcoming City development program

1. City of International Work

City of International Work creates conditions for the internationalization of Tampere’s job market and enhances the competitiveness of the local business sector in the future. The goal is to reform Tampere’s job market in collaboration with key stakeholder, making it easier for international professionals to find employment in companies within the Tampere region. 

2. International Home

International Home focus area promotes the receptiveness of the society and local communities as well as intercultural interaction. The goal is to strengthen the sense of belonging for international professionals living in Tampere, facilitate their integration into local communities, and enhance the retention of international talent living in Tampere.

3. City Development and Prevention of Segregation

City Development and Prevention of Segregation focus area fosters the balanced development of the city and its different areas into an international city and pays attention to the development of city’s neighborhoods as well as prevention of segregation.

4. International City Organization

International City Organization focus area specifically advances the internationalization of the city organization itself. The main goal is to develop city of Tampere organization as an international employer and internationalize city’s services in a way that makes them more accessible and better aligned with the needs of international professionals."
