The City of Tampere, Tampere University, Tampere University of Applied Sciences, student unions Trey and Tamko and the Opiskelijan Tampere association have joined forces to draw up an Action Plan to help make Tampere the most student-friendly city in Finland. The City Board heard an overview of higher education cooperation and approved the Action Plan at its meeting on 6 February 2023.
The Action Plan on Student-Friendliness aims to improve communications targeted at students and to help gather and disseminate information in a manner that reaches the students. The goals are to make the student culture more visible in Tampere and to improve the well-being of students. The Action Plan also contributes to internationalisation and the employment of students.
Tampere already does much work to improve student-friendliness, but the Action Plan is a way to bring the work of different stakeholders together. The Action Plan is one of the city’s dedicated programmes that refine its strategy. The City Board guides the strategic direction of higher education policy in Tampere. The main objectives of the Action Plan include bringing together stakeholders, interaction, and good communications.
“The Action Plan on Student-Friendliness backs up and supports those who are already working on students’ well-being. The aim is to provide a strategic framework for joint action and to enable smooth cooperation across organisational boundaries,” says Max Liikka, a specialist on higher education cooperation at City of Tampere.
The partnership agreement between the City of Tampere and the higher education institutions will run until 2025. Its aim is cooperation to promote the appeal of Tampere as a student city and the competitiveness, attractiveness, and reputation of the region in Finland and internationally.
