Finnish Language and Handicrafts Courses Among the Most Popular at The Adult Education Centre of the Tampere Region
The most popular courses for the spring term, based on waiting lists, include numerous Finnish language courses: “Review and Improve Your Finnish,” “Learn Finnish by Reading,” “Easy Finnish Day Course,” and “Effective Finnish Grammar.”
Paula Fiskaali, the teacher and course coordinator for languages and immigrant education, is not surprised by the popularity of Finnish courses, as it reflects the growing number of immigrants in Tampere. About one in ten residents of Tampere is an immigrant.
– Affordable or even free courses are important ways for students to integrate into Finnish society. Good teachers also inspire more and more people to join, Fiskaali explains.
The Adult Education Centre of the Tampere region offers over 30 Finnish courses during the spring, most of which still have available spots.
Felting and Healthcare Are Popular
Favorites can be seen in every subject area offered by the centre.
The “Lovely Animal Figure by Felting” course, which attracted great interest in the fall, is once again inspiring participants and is among the top five most popular courses along with Finnish courses. In handicrafts, the “Lovely Birch Bark Works” course and clothing sewing also have many people on the waiting list. In the arts, the most popular courses are traditionally ceramics, basic singing, improvisation courses, art graphics, and visual arts courses for children, youth, and families.
In the field of health promotion, familiar favorites such as pilates courses alone or with a baby, ballet fitness, HIIT, and kettlebell classes attract participants to the point of having waiting lists. Exercise courses are also popular online, and you can study pilates, yoga, and various forms of exercise remotely.
In the field of knowledge, the most popular courses are “Are You Interested in Nursing Work in Sweden or Norway?”, “Finnish Divorce Seminar,” and “Current Affairs Discussion Group.” Despite their popularity, there is still plenty of space in these courses.
Over 18,000 Have Already Found a Hobby
The new courses for the spring term include English-language photography and photo editing courses, video game storytelling, miniature figure painting, grand piano playing, stage combat, and physical theater.
The spring selection includes over 980 courses held in Tampere, Ylöjärvi, and online. Courses of various lengths start throughout the semester until early June. Registration is open at least until the course starts, but the centre encourages registering at least a week in advance to ensure the course starts.
By mid-December of the current academic year, over 18,000 participants have already found a hobby from the centre’s selection. The centre updates its course selection, so it is worth following the course website actively.
If a course is full, the centre recommends registering on the waiting list. When a spot becomes available, the centre’s customer service will personally contact those on the waiting list.
