European Masters Games takes over Tampere from 26 June to 9 July 2023
European Masters Games will be held in Tampere between 26 June and 9 July 2023. Around 4,000 athletes from 77 different countries will be arriving in the event, along with their teams. All in all, the event will attract nearly 10,000 visitors to the city.
European Masters Games is an international competition for adult athletes. This will be already the fifth time the European event is organised, and the programme includes 29 sports. You can watch sports competitions at 14 different locations around Tampere. The average age of competitors is 52 years. All European Masters Games events are open to the public.
The event provides participants with the chance to win at hobbyist and professional levels.
– A large number of visitors from around the world will spend two weeks in Tampere in June and July. Once again, Tampere offers a unique setting for an international sports event, says Perttu Pesä, Director of Major Events in the City of Tampere.
The living room of the competitions will be the Summer Terrace Restaurants area in Central Square, where the official games square of the event will be located. The opening ceremony begins on Tuesday 27 June 2023 at 6.30 p.m. in Central Square. From there, the athletes will march towards the Tampere stadium as an impressive parade. At 7 p.m., the event will be solemnly opened by the President of International Masters Games, Sergey Bubka, world record-breaker in pole vault. The a cappella ensemble Rajaton, the dance group Lunddance and the gymnast team Akkron taika will take the stage in Ratina. The opening ceremony will also be free of charge for the public.
The rights to organise the European Masters Games are owned by the International Masters Games Association. The rights to organise the 2023 event have been granted to the City of Tampere, which serves as the host city of the competition.
