This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of poet Kirsi Kunnas. As part of the anniversary, Tampere is organising the Tumpkin’s Park Festival, where the renovated Tittytumpkin’s Fairytale Park, based on Kunnas' poems, will be opened in its new splendour.
The family park festival will begin at 1 pm with an opening speech by Deputy Mayor Matti Helimo. The event will also feature poems by Kunnas, a performance by the children's music group Soiva Siili and singer-songwriter Hiski Pajuniemi, and dance music for children by DJ Juissi.
The Park Festival also offers children the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of poetry and art through play. A poetry living room and a poetry workshop will be set up in the park for the day, where children can try their hand at writing poetry. There will also be a children's theatre adventure where they can play with stories. The festival will also feature a variety of exciting activities, including circus performances, hobby horsing and making giant bubbles. The activities will be held in Finnish, but children of all languages are welcome to participate.
The event is organised by the City of Tampere in cooperation with the PiiPoo Cultural Centre, the Rulla Children's Cultural Centre and the Yöstäjä organization for creative writing.
