American movie "Get Away," filmed in Tampere, premieres in the United States
The American-Finnish horror comedy “Get Away" (production title "Svalta") tells the story of a family vacationing on an island, which also happens to be the hideout of an escaped serial killer.
On screen, Tampere transforms into the Swedish archipelago town of Svalta, where the vacationing family soon becomes the target of the serial killer. The film showcases many scenic Tampere locations, including Tammela Square, the Möljä pier in Hiedanranta, the surroundings of St. Olaf's Church in Tyrvää, and the old villa in Kangasala.
The film's trailer was released alongside the premiere.
– With the trailer now released, we’re thrilled to see this film coming to life for audiences for the first time. It was such a pleasure to shoot in Tampere, and we can’t wait for viewers to see the magic that we made there come to life on their screens, said Aram Tertzakian, co-founder of XYZ Films.
Tampere’s versatility as a filming city showcased in the movie
Since 2018, Tampere’s audiovisual production incentive has supported over a hundred films and series shot in Tampere. An increasing number of these productions have been international. "Get Away" received incentives both from the City of Tampere and Finland.
In addition to the production incentive, the region also boasts a wealth of film industry expertise.
– Get Away movie proofs that Tampere region offers more than its locations and cash rebate. We are adaptive, skilled and solution oriented ecosystem, so that it's even possible to set the region to look and function like a Swedish island, stated Fanny Heinonen, Program Director at Film Tampere.
In early reviews of "Get Away," Emily von Seele from Daily Dead praised the film, stating, "This film is entertaining in so many ways—'Get Away' takes you to unexpected places—"
The film was written by English actor Nick Frost, who also plays the lead role. Frost is known for his roles in Edgar Wright's films "Shaun of the Dead," "Hot Fuzz," and "The World's End."
Starring alongside Frost is Irish actress Aisling Bea, known as an actor, writer, and stand-up comedian. Bea stars in Netflix's "Living With Yourself" and the British comedy "This Way Up."
The production companies behind the film are XYZ Films, Wayward Entertainment, and Resolute Films.
