Tram line 1 to Lentävänniemi on 7 January, also changes to bus lines

The route of tram line 1 will be extended on Tuesday 7 January 2025, when the service from Santalahti to Lentävänniemi starts. At the same time, changes to the bus lines will also come into effect. The main changes are related to the extension of the tram network in the west and will affect the Lielahti-Lentävänniemi and Ylöjärvi areas.

Bus lines will be modified so that they do not overlap with the expanded tram route. This will make it possible to organise public transport more economically. The number of transfers will increase, but at the same time the frequency of services will be improved, making it easier to use public transport.

"We have recent good experience with transfer lines in the north-east of Tampere after the summer 2024 changes. For example, the number of passengers between Olkahinen and Tasanne has increased by 20-30% compared to before. According to customer satisfaction surveys, the most satisfied customers on the Nysse bus services are passengers on the connecting services. Now we also offer a better service to Länsi-Tampere and Ylöjärvi - extended operating times and frequent services," says Mika Periviita, Director of Tampere Regional Transport Nysse.

For example, line 81 from Ylöjärvi to Tampere now runs every hour on weekends. When the connecting service starts, the line will run at the same 15-minute intervals during the day on Saturdays and Sundays.

New connecting lines to the tramway

The new connecting bus lines 21 (Ryydynpohja - Lielahti - Hiedanranta), 22 (Siivikkala - Pohtola - Lielahti - Hiedanranta) and 81 (Asuntila - Ylöjärvi - Hiedanranta) will transport passengers smoothly to the tram.

The transfer station will be the new Hiedanranta connection point, where the bus and tram stops are on the same level. Transfers from one mode of transport to another will be accessible and partly under a shelter. Each connecting bus has a transfer connection to the tram.

The transfer point at Hiedanranta has a parking area for bicycles and over 100 cars, making it easy to park your car for free at Hiedanranta and continue to the city centre by tram.

Night-time services have also been provided for in the area, although tram line 1 is not running at night. The new night line 20 takes passengers from Keskustori to Lentävänniemi via Pyynikintori, Santalahti and Lielahti early in the morning and late in the evening. The bus will not run via the Hiedanranta transfer point but via Paasikiventie.

The route of line 4 will continue from Lielahti to Hiedanranta.

Other line changes

Lines 9 and 19, which previously operated from Lentävänniemi, will be discontinued. They will be replaced by lines 8A and 8B, which will run from Haukiluoma to Annala and Hervanta. Kaukajärvi and Annala will continue to be served frequently, only with new numbers.

Pirkkala will have its own main line, as line 30 will start operating from early morning to late at night on the route Kyösti - Pirkkala - Härmälä - Hatanpää - Koskipuisto - Keskustori - Pyynikintori.

Connecting line 17 will start on the new route Kaupin Kampus - Vehmainen - Kaukajärvi - Lukonmäki Hervanta - Hermia. The line will have a connection to tram line 1 at Kauppi Kampus, which means that the journey can continue all the way to Lentävänniemi if necessary. Line 38 (Hervanta - Linnainmaa - Tays - Lentävänniemi) will be discontinued.

Check your route in the journey planner

The new lines and routes are already available in the Nysse journey planner. The journey planner will guide you from your starting point to your destination, including transfers. Remember to change the date to 7 January 2025 at the earliest.

Routes can also be viewed on the map service, which works best on large screens. Timetables can be found on the Nysse timetable service.
