2024 brought a record number of customers to Nysse: statistics can now also be followed on the Nysse website

In 2024, new daily and monthly passenger records were broken in Nysse traffic. A total of 53.7 million journeys were made with Nysse throughout the year. This represents an increase of around 6.5% on the previous year, when 50.4 million journeys were made.

Around 16.6 million trips were made by tram, which represents 30.9% of all Nysse trips. There was also a significant increase in the number of trips by tram, with around 14.7 million trips (around 29% of Nysse trips) in the previous year.

The lines with the highest passenger numbers during the year were tram lines 3 (10.5 million) and 1 (6.1 million) and bus line 8 (4.6 million). In 2023, the lines with the highest ridership were the same, but bus line 8 had more passengers than tram line 1. The change of terminals in the city centre equalised the load between the tram lines as planned.

The increase in the number of passengers on Nysse in recent years has been much higher than in the Helsinki or Turku regions.

"In addition to the development measures for public transport in the 2020s, this growth is the result of long-term urban planning based on public transport in Tampere and the region. This work needs to be continued and more effort put into developing bus transport. We also definitely need a renewed bus service," says Mika Periviita, Director of Nysse.

A new type of bus service is currently being planned for the main bus routes, with the aim of bringing the quality level as close as possible to that of the tram, for example in terms of stop information and customer experience.

Annual, monthly and daily data on the number of journeys made on Nysse can now also be viewed at nysse.fi/tilastot. The data is updated once a month.

"Passenger volume is one of the most important indicators of public transport. we closely monitor the growth in passenger numbers in our planning, and now some of it can be published for wider use," says Riikka Salkonen, Customer Relations Manager.

Customer satisfaction remained high

Nysse regularly monitors the customer satisfaction. In 2024, customer satisfaction remained unchanged for both bus and tram passengers. As in the previous year, the overall rating for bus lines in the Nysse area was 4.2/5, for tram lines 4.5 (4.5) and for transfer bus lines 4.2 (4.3).

The survey found that the most satisfied passengers on both buses and trams were over 65 years old, but the differences between the ages were ultimately small. As in the previous year, the highest score for bus services was for the feeling of safety (4.5/5), which was even slightly better than last year (4.4/5). The ability to adapt the bus line to one's needs (4.4/5) was also rated well. Passengers also felt safe travelling on the tram (4.7/5). The condition of the stop was rated equally well. In the case of transfer bus line services, people were particularly satisfied with the number of seats (4.5/5).

The lowest ratings were given by Nysse users for the cleanliness of both buses and transfer line buses(4.0/5). For tram services, the lowest rating was given to the adequacy of seating (4.1/5). However, this result is slightly better than the previous year (3.9/5).

By line, the survey monitors the Net Promoter Score (NPS) of customers. A score of 40 or higher is considered excellent. The most popular Nysse lines in 2024 were tram lines 1 and 3 (NPS 74) and bus lines 30 (NPS 59) and 2 (NPS 56).

The Nysse customer satisfaction survey is carried out on a monthly basis. Responses are collected by walking on the trams and buses. In total, nearly 18 000 respondents were interviewed at different times of the day and under varying load conditions. Nysse's partner for collecting customer experience data is Roidu Oy.
