Tampere organizes a city-wide Parents' evening on school safety
The Parents' evening will discuss the safety situation in schools and educational institutions and what can be done to improve safety. Panelists at the event will be Mikko Pitkänen, Police Sergeant from the Central Finland Police Department, Ulla-Maija Ojalammi, Director of Basic Education in the City of Tampere, and Jussi Palovaara, Project Coordinator from Tredu's Ankkuritoiminnasta apua ja tukea II asteelle -project. The Parents' evening discussion is hosted by Henri Rikander, Security and Safety Manager of Tampere City.
The aim is to form a comprehensive picture of the phenomenon
The online event follows on from the Youth Crime and Urban Safety discussion that was held in the last Parents' evening. The theme attracted a great deal of interest, which surprised the organizers in a positive way.
– Our choice of theme was spot on, as we reached thousands of parents at the last Parents' evening. People can have difficulty seeing the big picture of safety when different extremes are often highlighted in discussions. Our aim is to help people to form a more comprehensive picture of the phenomenon, says Riikka Nopanen, a Senior specialist in the City of Tampere.
According to Nopanen, the safety situation in Tampere schools is good, and significant investments have been made in safety in recent years.
– We want to inform parents about the safety situation in schools and educational institutions in Tampere, about everyday safety issues and to create an understanding of what is going on around the topic," Nopanen continues.
The city-wide Parents' evening will be live streamed, and viewers will be able to ask questions and make comments via chat. Ulla-Maija Ojalammi, Director of Education in Primary Education, says the event is an excellent opportunity to ask questions about safety in schools and educational institutions and to have an open dialogue between experts and participants.
– I hope the event will give parents and other audience members a comprehensive picture of the safety measures. It will be an excellent opportunity to ask questions and share your views, says Ojalammi.
