Särkänniemi area

Mustalahden yli haarautuva Särkänsilta
The Särkänniemi area comprises the land occupied by the Särkänniemi Amusement Park, as well as the Mustalahti and Kortelahti harbour areas, the former factory complex of Onkiniemi and the northern section of Näsinsilta Bridge. Since motor traffic through the area has been rerouted through the Rantaväylä road tunnel, the Särkänniemi area, with its beautiful lakeside scenery, can finally take its rightful place as part of central Tampere. The aim of the development is to introduce an all-year travel, leisure and events hub to the area, to improve the walking and cycling connections and to bring more residents to the area.

With the renewal of the area, arrival at the main entrance of the amusement park will occur directly from the Mustalahti Harbour via the new Särkänsilta bridge. A hotel with an indoor water park, as well as an outdoor lake centre, will be built at the bottom of the Kortelahti bay. The Onkiniemi factory area will also be developed further, and a residential block will be built in its vicinity. A new multipurpose arena is also in the plans for the area. Public transport connections in the area have improved significantly with the tramline that first opened services to Santalahti and then onwards to Lentävänniemi. The new waterfront routes and the scenic Näsin puistosilta bridge connect the area more closely to Santalahti and Ranta-Tampella. Särkänniemi Oy and the City of Tampere are in charge of developing the area. The plans, division of responsibilities and schedules will be defined in more detail as the work progresses.

Construction of the Särkänsilta bridge has begun

Several construction sites are active in the Särkänniemi area in preparation for the more extensive renewal of the area. The construction of Särkänsilta began in the last week of January 2025.

Mustanlahti renewal

The objective of the Mustalahti Harbour master plan is to establish a strong connection between the new Särkänsilta bridge, the harbour area and the city centre. The valuable historical character, boat traffic and recreational possibilities of the harbour will be preserved.
