Tampere Travel and Service Centre
The Tampere Travel and Service Centre continues the Station District development. Thousands of new homes as well as commercial and office premises with jobs are in the plans for the area. The development will improve the accessibility of the Railway Station and make exchanges between various modes of transport smoother. The project will also generate a pleasant and green urban space.
The detailed planning for the Travel and Service Centre area will be finalised and the construction implemented in phases. Phased planning and implementation will make sure that any changes in the operational environment, market needs and consumer behaviour can be taken into account in the detailed planning. This will introduce functions to the area that will be needed and in demand in the future as well.
The planning process was launched in 2018, and preparatory materials for the detailed plans were placed on public display in 2018. The City Board approved the master plan for the Travel and Service Centre in December 2019. The detailed planning for the area is still ongoing.
The Travel and Service Centre is a joint project by the City of Tampere, VR Group, the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency and Finnpark Oy, and it is also linked to private properties and the development projects related to these.
Studio Libeskind to continue their work on the Station District
Studio Libeskind of New York has been selected to draw up the reference plan. In Tampere, Studio Libeskind has become known for their designs of Nokia Arena and the connected high-rises.
The development of the Station District is progressing
A new plan is in the works for the areas of the Travel and Service Centre and the north deck. The aim is to create a cohesive whole and a convenient route from the Railway Station to Nokia Arena.
