Volunteer of the Year award
Volunteer of the Year 2024
This year, the theme of the Volunteer of the Year award is the promotion of physical activity. The award was given to Katja Metsävainio. She has long worked for the benefit of people with physical and functional disabilities, including in the Rheumatism Association and Federation, the Disability Council of the City of Tampere and its Accessibility Working Group, as well as the Patient Forum at Tays.
Each year, the City of Tampere selects and rewards the volunteer worker of the year. The purpose of the award is to highlight the importance of volunteers working at the grassroot level in Tampere.
The recipient of the award may be an experienced volunteer or someone new and enthusiastic who brings joy, support, resources, and hope to those with whom he works and inspires other volunteers to work for the common good.
The award recipient is selected by the Culture and Leisure Committee on the basis of proposals submitted by the local residents. Every year, the Committee will decide a field of voluntary work which the recipient shall represent. The prize is awarded annually at an event that is open to representatives of the media. The prize has been awarded since 2015.
