Härmälä Library will be closed for renovation on 5 June

Härmälä Library will be closed on Monday 5 June in preparation for the planned renovation of the school building. Härmälä School has already moved to temporary premises at Hatanpää school house. The planned renovation is expected to be ready in January 2025. The renovation will provide the library with slightly larger premises with the library entrance moved to Toivonkatu.

Temporary library premises were initially planned on the school outdoor area, but a module solution proved to be impossible for cost reasons. Other possible temporary solutions in the Härmälä area were also extensively researched. No premises available were suited for comprehensive library services, but in August 2023, a library self-service point for picking up reservations and returning materials will open in the near-by Kuuselakeskus (Nuolialantie 46).

– We are delighted that with small alterations, we can create a space to Kuuselakeskus where Härmälä residents can pick up their reservations and return their loans during the renovation. As soon as we get the self-service point in working order, the customers can reserve materials in PIKI Online library or by phone to then be picked up in Härmälä. Mobile library services are also available in the area, says Sylvia Stavén, Head of Services from Tampere City Library.

Kuuselakeskus is happy to host the library self-service point.

– We are pleased to start an even closer cooperation with the library and invite Härmälä residents to visit Kuuselakeskus. In addition to library services, Kuusela offers an opportunity to stop by for a coffee or lunch, or to explore the many services of the Lähitori meeting point, describe Tiina Santala and Tiina Raiski from Sointu Senioripalvelut services.

Reservations moved to the Main Library Metso or to a library selected by the customer

During the renovation of Härmälä Library, all other locations of Tampere City Library are available for customers, and loans can also be returned to any PIKI library. The Härmälä Library return box is out of use during the renovation.

The collection of Härmälä library will be unavailable in the PIKI Online library starting on 22 May, after which date no reservations can be made for library materials located in Härmälä. Material on loan from Härmälä Library can, however, be renewed as usual in the online library.

For reservations arriving after 22 May with Härmälä Library as their selected pick-up location, their pick-up place is automatically moved to the Main Library Metso, which is easily accessible by bus. If the customer prefers to pick up their reservations from another library, they can change their preferred pick-up location in the PIKI Online library under My Account/Profile.
