Koukkuniemi Library introduces self-service opening hours

The Koukkuniemi Library will introduce self-service opening hours on 1 October. During self-service opening hours, customer can open the doors of the library with a PIKI library card.

The Koukkuniemi Library is currently undergoing minor repairs to enable self-service technology. Until now, the Koukkuniemi Library has been open for self-service during the opening hours of the building. In the future the library doors will open with a library card after 15:00 on weekdays and all day on weekends.

- The self-service technology will allow the opening hours to be extended into the evening. The access control linked to the library card will also improve security. However, the library's service hours will remain unchanged, meaning that on Mondays and Thursdays staff will be available to help with library services, says Merita Ronkainen, Service Manager at Tampere City Library.

Koukkuniemi Library is located in the Koukkuniemi area, in the Toukola building. The library is open to everyone. Koukkuniemi Library has a diverse collection, and it also organises events for children, for example.

During self-service opening hours, the library doors open when a PIKI library card is displayed on the reader next to the door and the four-digit PIN code is entered. The new PIN can be reset from the library's customer service or by filling in an online form.

The library does not have any staff during self-service hours but customers can loan and return materials through self-service machines, use a computer and wireless network, read magazines and work in the library.

The library's self-service opening hours are also available in the libraries of Kaukajärvi, Koivistonkylä, Kämmenniemi, Lielahti, Messukylä, Nekala, Peltolammi, Terälahti and Härmälä, which is currently under renovation.
