Demolition Art House Pinni47 opens on the 7th of June – Unique cultural venue set to enliven central Tampere with art this summer

The first demolition art house in Tampere opens its doors to visitors on Wednesday 7th of June at Pinninkatu 47. Pinni47 is a multi-storey art exhibition and cultural venue, which will enliven the Tulli area in the vicinity of the railway station in June and July.

Over the spring, a unique cultural venue was under construction at Demolition Art House Pinni47, where art takes over the demolition house. The exhibition, curated by visual artist Teemu Mäenpää, presents works from 24 artists and artistic groups from the Pirkanmaa Region.

According to Mäenpää, the audience has a one-time chance to experience a boundary-breaking group exhibition, which is far unlike any ordinary gallery.

– The construction of the exhibition has taken very interesting turns, and has taken on a life of its own following the artist selections. The artists have taken creative control of the place and have made different spaces and artworks interact with one another. The result is a unique and collective array of works, describes Mäenpää.

Among other things, the exhibition comprises sculptures, installations and murals – and of course, the immersive and space-specific art characteristic of demolition art, which is created directly within the venue. A mural covering the entire façade facing Pinninkatu is currently in the making as a collaboration between Eetu-Elmeri and Octo.

Pinni47 will also be an event venue throughout summer 2023

In addition to the exhibition located on Pinni47’s third and fourth floors, there is a free-of-charge cultural venue open to everyone on the second floor, which will offer not only exhibitions but also events and workshops.

The first event at the free-of-charge venue in Pinni47 will be the Kuule Sävel! concert on Friday 16th of June starting at 12.30pm. Choir Kuninkaallinen Tuomiokuoro, led by Petra Poutanen, will be performing at the event.

Among the works on view at the venue are two group exhibitions: Dust Bunnies by Fine Art graduates of Tampere University of Applied Sciences, and Nykyvaloa/New Rays from the photography festival Backlight’23. Myrskylintu: An immersive exploration of the Ukrainian war, an installation by Ukrainian artists, explores the fragility of peace and the consequences of conflict.

Parking up at the inner courtyard of Pinni47 will be an Italian-themed restaurant car run by Pipa, a company founded by a co-operative of Hospitality Management students from Tampere University of Applied Sciences.

Further information about the exhibitions, artists and updates about the venue’s events is available on Pinni47’s website.
