What did Christmas dishes taste like, how did wealthy families decorate their homes for Christmas? How did people spend their time during the Christmas holidays? What gifts might the von Nottbecks, for example, have given each other?
This year, you can also experience the Christmas atmosphere in the palace courtyard, as the park path between the Stable Yards area and the Milavida Palace gets a nostalgic seasonal lighting. The Christmas tree park was created in collaboration with Tampere Festival of Light. The path from Tallipiha to Milavida is illuminated by a LED lantern alley, and along the way, you can find illuminated Christmas trees and a fountain-shaped light subject. Tampere’s tallest Christmas tree - at least from sea level - adorns the main entrance of Milavida! The lights turn on in the afternoon as the darkness descends.
Emphasizing the winter Museum Milavida and park area with lighting makes Näsinpuisto Park, the Stable Yards area, and Särkänniemi a multisensory and experiential oasis in the middle of the city. By bringing light to the darkness, we can also attract international visitors and give Tampere a magical look in the darkest season, says project development manager Markus Joonas.
You can visit the Christmas at the Palace exhibition from November 21, 2023, to January 7, 2024, at Näsilinna, from Tuesday to Sunday, from 11 am to 6 pm. There is a lot of wonderful Christmas atmosphere! The exhibition includes a rich supporting program: handicraft workshops, and various events such as concerts and Christmas market.
