Construction work begins on the Näsijärvenkatu roundabout
The construction of the Näsijärvenkatu roundabout will start in early March with water supply work. Initially, preparatory work will be done. A permanent roundabout will be built at the junction of Näsijärvenkatu and Paasikivenkatu, south of Mustalahti railway bridge, replacing the existing temporary roundabout.
As part of the work on the roundabout, a pedestrian path and cycle lane will be built next to the Nääshalli parking area from Näsijärvenkatu to Paasikivenkatu. The project will also include the renovation of water supply and stormwater systems. The existing traffic lights at the roundabout after Mustalahti railway bridge will be removed.
The purpose of the roundabout is to get vehicles to reduce speed when entering the city centre, improve the connections of side roads to traffic and provide safer crossing points for pedestrians and cyclists.
The work will be completed by the end of October.
The work was commissioned by the City of Tampere and Tampere Water. The main contractor is Hervannan Kaivin Oy.
