The Tram Service to Lentävänniemi will start on Tuesday 7.1. and the opening will be celebrated on Saturday 4.1.
The extension of the tram service will bring changes to many bus routes, especially in the Lielahti-Lentävänniemi and Ylöjärvi areas. The changes can be found on the Nysse website and will also appear in the route guide.
The start of the Lentävänniemi service will be celebrated on January 4th from 15 to 19 at Hiedanranta. The Lentävänniemi Tram Festival will feature a wide range of activities for all ages, and will be opened by Mayor Kalervo Kummola.
The decision to build the tramway was taken in Tampere in 2016 and the service started in August 2021. The tram will run on two lines: line 1 from Kauppi Campus to Lentävänniemi and line 3 from Hervanta to Sori Square. The popularity of the tram has been reflected in the number of passengers, which has consistently broken records.
The route will next be extended beyond the municipal boundaries of Tampere to Pirkkala. In late October 2024, the councils of Tampere and Pirkkala decided to build the Pirkkala-Linnainmaa tramway. The Pirkkala-Linnainmaa tramway alliance started construction work on the section in December 2024. The tramway will be built in two parts, with the first phase consisting of sections from Sori Square to Partola and from Kauppi Campus to Niihama. In the second phase, the sections from Partola to Suuppa and from Niihama to Linnainmaa will be built. The construction of the second phase is subject to state support. A tram service to Suuppa and Linnainmaa could possibly start in early 2032.
In December 2024, the city councils of Tampere and Ylöjärvi decided to start drawing up a project plan for the Lielahti-Ylöjärvi tramway. The plan is due to be drawn up between 2025 and 2027.
