Summer terrace to be opened at Tampere Central Square
– The city is pleased that there will be experience-based services at the Central Square this summer, says Tampere Deputy Mayor Ilkka Sasi.
Keskustorin Kesäterassi Oy, which will be organising the summer terrace, operates on market terms. The terms of the lease are the same as those required in the idea competition. At the beginning of the year, the city organised an idea competition to find an operator for Central Square, but it did not produce the desired result. Keskustorin Kesäterassi Oy did not participate in the idea competition due to conflicting timetables.
According to the plan by Keskustorin Kesäterassi Oy, the summer terrace, which will be situated between Tampere City Hall and Tampere Theatre will be a visible part of urban culture and an experience-based service package. The summer terrace aims to increase the attractiveness of the city and enable the participation of several local companies in the activities of the area.
– The summer terrace combines a food court, the Fun Zone Sports Centre, musical performances and various events, says Mika Järvinen, Project Manager responsible for the concept.
An area consisting of food and pop-up stands and an event tent and stage will be built at Central Square. The area will also have a giant screen and a beer world. The entire summer terrace area will be a licensed area.
– For the pop-up stands, we are looking for local, changing operators, who will bring experiences of local operators' products throughout the summer and liven up the services offered, says Louie So, who is responsible for organising the food, drink and programme at the summer terrace.
The decision to rent Central Square was made by Virpi Ekholm, Director of Real Estate and Housing at the City of Tampere.
