Open dance demo and discussion with resident artists
In September 2024, the Pirkanmaa Dance Center, in collaboration with the Artists at Risk organization, invites Ukrainian dance artist Maria Martos to the Haihara residency in Tampere.
During the residency, Martos works on themes of home and belonging. In a site-specific approach, the dance artist’s home on ‘Tampere Street’ in Kyiv intertwines with the history of Haihara Manor, creating a connection to the safety of home, attack, loss, and recovery.
The Pirkanmaa Dance Center considers it important to create networking and internationalization opportunities in the field of dance art. Two local dance artists, Kornélia Mangi and Tuuti Touhunen, will also work in the residency with Martos.
Martos, Mangi, and Touhunen will hold an open demo and discussion for the public on Friday, September 27th at 7 PM at Haihara Manor (Haiharankatu 30, Tampere). Admission is free.
The residency is made possible with special assistance from the Ministry of Education and Culture.
Haihara Fest invites children and youth to the area
The first event trial of the Kaukajärvi-Annala neighborhood program is an event for children and youth, conceived by the Pirkanmaa FinFami’s “Huppu huolehtivat nuoret” project and organized together with the City of Tampere’s youth services and urban culture unit.
From 12 PM to 3 PM, there will be a hobby horse track, free pancakes, alpacas from 1 PM to 2:30 PM, and graffiti painting for children.
At 3 PM, there will be a paid dance performance “Outside the Box” in the playground. “Outside the Box” invites the child audience to dance according to rules and restrictions. They compete and obey – until they don’t! What happens when dancers bend rigid commands? Which rules can be discarded, and who decides that?
From 3 PM to 6 PM, there will be graffiti painting, music, an outdoor short film, and free pancakes for youth.
Tampere Salonkiorkesteri’s Traditional Concert
The theme of the Tampere Salonkiorkesteri’s traditional Tampere Day concert is “Young Soloists - Old Classics.” The concert will be conducted by conductor Pekka Ahonen, with violinist Iidamari Ahonen and cellist Väinö Karhunen as soloists. Both soloists are members of the Pro TSO association, the background organization of the Tampere Salonkiorkesteri. The program includes guaranteed salon music classics by Strauss, Elgar, Saint-Saëns, and Merikanto, as well as lighter music by Tampere composers.
Admission is free. There will be a paid buffet during the intermission. The event is organized by the City of Tampere’s urban culture unit.
