The Window Walkabout event has already attracted tens of thousands of people – map downloaded 78.000 times
The Window Walkabout (a.k.a. Ruudun takaa) will continue in Tampere with 40 different art works until Sunday 3 November from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. every day. In addition to Tampere, the event is on in Hämeenkyrö, Ikaalinen, Mänttä-Vilppula, Ruovesi and Sastamala.
On 1st of of November, Akaa, Kangasala, Lempäälä, Orivesi, Parkano and Urjala will also start their own Window Walkabout events. All events are free of charge.
In the Window Walkabout event, windows serve as stages of art for the audience walking down the streets. The event is unique in scale: in Pirkanmaa, around 1000 actors are involved in more than 200 art windows in 20 municipalities during October and November.
- We are already pleasantly surprised by the huge number of visitors that have attended the Window Walkabout event. The feedback we received shows that this new way of bringing art and light into city and town centres has really appealed to people," says project manager Ilona Kyykoski.
In Tampere, during the first four evenings, tens of thousands of visitors have strolled smoothly around the city centre, and no major jams have arisen.
- There have also been many charming encounters between the audience and the performers in the windows. Although the performers have left Tampere's windows, we will continue to showcase a wide range of expertise from the cultural scene in Pirkanmaa, for example through light and visual art, sculptures, various kinds of installations and videos.
The exact timetable for the implementation of the projects in Tampere and other municipalities in Pirkanmaa can be found on the map at www.ruuduntakaa.fi (also in English).
