Two ballots in use in county and municipal elections on 13 April

The actual election day of the county and municipal elections is Sunday 13 April 2025. On election day, you can only vote at the polling station in your voting area. In Tampere, the assigned polling stations are the same as in last year's elections.
The purple ballot box has the word election written on it.
New urns are in use in the elections.

On the actual election day, the polling stations are open from 9:00 to 20:00. Remember to bring a valid, official ID to the polling station.

Voting in simultaneous elections is easy and hardly different from traditional elections.

– Write the number of the candidate you are voting for in the municipal elections on the white ballot, and the number of the candidate you are voting for in the county elections on the purple ballot. If necessary, election officials will provide advice and assistance, says lawyer Katja Korhonen, who acts as the second secretary of the central municipal electoral board.

Voting booths have the candidate lists for both elections

The voting booths have the lists of candidates for the municipal elections in Tampere as well as for the county elections of the Pirkanmaa wellbeing services county.

In the Tampere municipal elections, the candidates’ numbers are between 2 and 573, and in the Wellbeing Services County of Pirkanmaa county elections, the candidates’ numbers are between 2002 and 2717.

– Only write the number of your candidate on the ballot, nothing else. The ballot may be considered invalid if any other marking has been made on it, reminds Katja Korhonen.

Entryways to polling stations are as accessible as possible. Each polling station has an accessible voting booth for voters who use a wheelchair.  In addition, the election officials can help the voter if necessary.

You can find the location of your polling station on the election day in the voting notification which was either sent to you by mail or via Messages on the Suomi.fi service. You can also check your polling station in the Digital and Population Data Services Agency's polling station service by entering your street address in the search box.

Many foreigners permanently living in Finland have the right to vote

You can vote in the municipal elections in Tampere if you live in Tampere and have turned 18 years old by the election day. Many foreigners living permanently in Tampere therefore have a  right to vote.

For the purpose of the elections, your municipality of residence is defined as the municipality in which you were registered 51 days before the actual election day (on 21 February 2024). In municipal elections, citizens of other EU countries, Norway, and Iceland who have a municipality of residence in Finland also have the right to vote. Citizens of non-EU countries who have continuously had a municipality of residence in Finland at least two years before the election day are also entitled to vote.

Municipal elections are your opportunity to influence who makes decisions in your municipality – from everyday services, education and environment to culture and climate action. Municipal decision-makers are closest to our everyday lives, and their decisions affect all of us.

In the county elections, the residents of Pirkanmaa elect representatives to the regional council of the Pirkanmaa wellbeing services county.

The election results will be confirmed on Wednesday 16 April.
