Presentation of Kalkunvuori daycare centre

  • Kalkunvuori is home to a daycare centre, a school, open early childhood education clubs, as well as a schoolchildren’s afternoon activity. The facilities provide for more than 130 children and 24 adults.
  • At the start of the child’s daycare, the care hours for the child will be agreed on an individual family basis. The care hours are primarily determined by the parents’ working hours.
  • The daycare centre is open from 6 am to 5 pm (6 pm). In the morning, before breakfast, we gather at the Naavanutut home area.
  • You should always let personnel know you are dropping off or picking up a child. This encounter is also a good point to exchange any daily news and messages concerning the child.
  • The child’s hands should be washed immediately on arrival to the daycare centre (as well as back home). This helps cut down on the transmission of illnesses such as the flu.
  • When a child falls ill, call the phone number for their home area to notify us of the absence. You can find the direct numbers on the Groups page.
  • The child should be dressed as appropriate to the season and weather, with separate sets of outdoor and indoor clothing.
  • Please remember to write the child’s name on their clothes and footwear.

Paired worker model

At Kalkunvuori, the children’s home areas are staffed using a paired worker model. Each pair of workers is made up of two trained personnel, either an early childhood education teacher and a childcare nurse, or two childcare nurses. The workers partner to manage a group of between eight and sixteen children, depending on the children’s age and the intensity of care necessary. Three pairs of workers operate in each home area. A joint plan for activities is drawn up for the entire home area, with each pair responsible for carrying it out.

Open early childhood education and care constitutes an alternative service to full- or part-time daycare. Participation in open early childhood education and care will not reduce your eligibility for child home care allowance, and the activities themselves are free of charge.
The clubs’ education activities are compliant with the City of Tampere early childhood education plan.
