Tampere celebrates Stanley Cup championship at sold-out Nokia Arena – the event can be watched worldwide
Approximately 15,000 people will attend the Stanley Cup celebration of Aleksander “Sasha” Barkov, Tampere-based captain of the Florida Panthers, which means that the event is almost sold out. Ice hockey fans all over the world will be able to watch the festivities on Yle Areena, which will broadcast the event live from Tampere’s Nokia Arena on 31 July from 5 p.m. onwards.
Barkov’s NHL team, the Florida Panthers, has agreed to promote the option to watch the Stanley Cup celebration in their own social media channels.
‒ Tampere is the ice hockey capital of Finland, and the international visibility we will receive from this will further strengthen our city’s position as the home of ice hockey. We are proud and delighted that the whole city of Tampere will be able to celebrate winning the Stanley Cup trophy together with Aleksander Barkov and his teammates. I would like to thank Yle, the Florida Panthers and Tamhockey for the good cooperation, says Mayor of Tampere Kalervo Kummola.
Yle Areena’s live broadcast allows those who will be unable to attend the event in person to watch the festivities as well. The event can be watched anywhere in the world, which means that hockey fans worldwide will also be able to celebrate the first Finnish player to win the NHL Stanley Cup as a team captain.
‒ The event is organised as a part of Yle’s open platform pilot project, which means that Tamhockey and their partners will be responsible for the technical production of the event, and Yle will broadcast it in Areena. This way, we will be able to add an increasing number of events that can be watched through Areena, says Jyri Kataja-Rahko, Head of Yle’s Events Department.
Florida Panthers congratulate the captain who led them to the championship
Barkov’s ice hockey team, the Florda Panthers, is also excited about the Stanley Cup celebration in Tampere.
‒ After dedicating so much time to the South Florida community and to the hockey world, we are very excited for Sasha to get to enjoy his day at home, said Florida Panthers President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Bill Zito.
‒ Congratulations to Sasha on his achievements and contributions not only to the Florida Panthers, but to the city of Tampere and to hockey. We look forward to returning in the fall.
