Christian Jütte's exhibition Mauer meets mökki - in search of lost time opens at Gallery Muuntotila

The miniature statue exhibition depicts the artist's biography as a three-dimensional cartoon. Christian Jütte's latest art project tells about the artist's own career with the help of miniature statues. The exhibition is on display at Gallery Muuntotila 24.8.-15.9.2024.

The exhibition showcases works from a period of 50 years: Wild West toy figures made from plasticine as a child, cast resin replicas of cartoon characters made as a professional artist, plastic toy prototypes, plaster candy and soap models, and a few miniature models and plasticine figures made by Jütte's son.

The works are not always displayed in the chronological order. Instead, the artist builds momentary snapshots of his life in diorama boxes, creatively using statues from all eras.

The main theme of the exhibition is Jütte's dual citizenship. Christian Jütte was born in 1968 in West Berlin to a German-Finnish family. The idyllic long vacations in the countryside of Turku in the 1970s at the grandparents' house formed a stark contrast to the big city surrounded by a wall.

The exhibition uses humor to present even dramatic life stages and sheds light on how a "Summer Turku resident" ended up in Tampere more than twenty years ago. The sculptor has used as many ready-made statues as possible for the exhibition and crafted the boxes from recycled materials from his own household.

The statues of cartoon characters on display have been made at the request of the rights holder (e.g. publisher) or/and with the permission of the artists.

The artist has received a grant from the Aue Foundation for the exhibition project.
