Foundation work for the Liisanpuisto Park Meadow begins on east side of the Kaleva Church
Fences will be put around the construction site, but the park paths will remain available. First, we will remove the current grass on the meadow site. Growth beds will be installed close to the end of September. The site for the meadow is partly in an open, rocky area and partly under tree cover. Only paths and rocky areas will be used to walk in the meadow. More of the rocks will be excavated during the construction of the foundation. The current trees, which are in good condition, will be kept in the area.
Local meadow plants
Once the new growth beds are completed in spring, we will plant local meadow species that thrive in open meadows as well as in the shade. Villi Vyöhyke association will collect hare’s foot clover, mullein, blue thistle, Nottingham catchfly, golden clover and sticky catchfly seeds, among others, from Kalevanharju.
It will take years for the meadow to fully develop, and after planting the meadow will require intensive care, such as weed control. In the early stages, the meadow will be protected with temporary fences, as walking there will slow down its growth.
The current benches of the Liisanpuisto meadow, which are in good condition, will be permanently installed in the area. We will also be installing new rubbish bins.
Creating meadows in the city is one of many methods at Tampere to prevent biodiversity loss. A council initiative was also submitted at the time to establish the meadow.
The contractor for the meadow work is Tampereen Infra Oy, and the client is the City of Tampere.
