Frequently asked questions about Tampere Region employment area

What is Tampere region employment area?

Public employment and economic development services will be transferred to employment areas as of 1 January 2025, and the central government’s Employment and Economic Development Offices (TE Offices) will be discontinued. There will be 45 employment areas in Finland. Two employment areas will be created in Pirkanmaa: Western Pirkanmaa and Tampere region. Mänttä-Vilppula will be transferred to the Southern Central Finland employment area.

The Tampere region employment area will comprise the municipalities of Akaa, Juupajoki, Kangasala, Kuhmoinen, Lempäälä, Nokia, Orivesi, Pirkkala, Pälkäne, Ruovesi, Tampere, Urjala, Valkeakoski, Vesilahti, Virrat and Ylöjärvi.  The municipality responsible for the employment area will be Tampere.

What benefits will the creation of the employment areas offer for clients?

The purpose of the reform is to bring employment and economic development services closer to residents and businesses with the aim of facilitating and speeding up the employment of job seekers and assisting businesses in finding employees. Customers do not need to worry about the continuity of the services during the reform. The reform will also ensure that the services are available to everyone on an equal basis.

As of the beginning of 2025, all job seekers and businesses in the employment area will receive advice and guidance on job search, recruitment and competence development from their own municipality of residence. Employment services will become part of the basic services of each municipality in the same way as education or civil engineering services, among others.

The clients will use the services in their municipality of residence and receive personal assistance from their OMA coach. Job seekers’ employment prospects will improve, as the municipalities will work in close cooperation with various parties active in working life, businesses, associations and business development services, and will be able to effectively ensure the availability of a skilled workforce for local trade and industry. New services will be developed in cooperation with employment services, educational organisations, enterprise and business development services, healthcare and social welfare services, the private sector, associations, foundations and the government. With the new services, the varied and individual service needs of job seeker clients can be better met.

What should I do if I am a customer of a TE Office or a local government pilot on employment?
