International Affairs
Tampere has been a fundamentally international city since its foundation in 1779. Had the foreign business men and migrant workers not arrived to the shores of the Tammerkoski rapids in 18th century, the story of Tampere would have been written in different ways.
Today, Tampere continues its success story as a vibrant international city, and an active player in international networks. Tampere bears global responsibility by looking for and building solutions to universal challenges of our times.
The City of Tampere international activities are defined in the guideline for international activities, and coordinated by the team of International Affairs. Tampere and wider Tampere Region also share an EU Office in Brussels for activities related to European Union.
Tampere has 18 active twin cities, belongs to 19 international networks and has pledged to 7 international declarations and commitments to promote globally significant themes.
