Registration for pre-primary education has started in Tampere
The parent or guardian registers the child for pre-primary education on the city’s website by 11 February 2024. When you are on the additional information page and move to the registration page, please change the language immediately to English in the top right corner of the page. Then, log in to the eVaka system using strong suomi.fi-authentication and fill in the application.
According to the Basic Education Act, the child must participate in pre-primary education or other activities that meet the objectives of pre-primary education during the academic year preceding compulsory education. Pre-primary education is provided in schools or day-care centres maintained by the city and in some private schools.
The child's pre-primary education place is primarily determined by the child's address and future school pathway. Pre-primary education is usually provided in the school closest to the child's home.
You can register your child to pre-primary education for the academic year 2023–2024 electronically on the City of Tampere’s website from 23 January to 11 February 2024. The website contains separate application forms for pre-primary education and bilingual pre-primary education in accordance with the school pathway. Bilingual pre-primary education is available in English, German and French alongside Finnish if the child has sufficient language skills in (one of) these.
If you are applying for a place in private pre-primary education, you need to fill in the organiser's own form.
Does the child need complementary activities?
Pre-primary education begins on Wednesday 7 August 2024 at 9.00. It is organised during school hours. Pre-primary education is free of charge, and the daily teaching time is four hours. You can also register your child for complementary activities, which are subject to a fee.
When the child is registered for pre-primary education in accordance with the school pathway and they also need complementary activities, you will need to register them for both pre-primary education and complementary activities at the same time.
For more information on pre-primary education, places of pre-primary education, registration and complementary activities, please visit the websites of the day-care centres and the City of Tampere.
